Wherever there are vehicles, you need paving. However, when it comes to pedestrian traffic, we use slabs. However, a combination of both pavers and slabs is possible, as is the case when making mosaics.
Installation is generally done in six stages:
First, information is collected regarding the ground where the future work will be carried out to determine the type of soil for the excavation.
Soil excavation. The depth of the excavation varies according to the purpose of the work, either for pedestrian traffic or for vehicular traffic. Once excavated, we install a geotextile membrane to avoid contamination of the soil.
The next step is to create the base. To do this, we extend a layer of 0-¾ gravel that we compact and grade.
With concrete sand, we create a bed for the pavers.
The pavers are now laid, and spaces are filled with concrete sand.
Finally, we fill the joints with polymer stabilizing sand and go over the area with a vibrating plate to help the sand penetrate the spaces between the pavers.
The Importance of Retaining Walls for Your Driveway
Although the purpose of the retaining wall, also known as a "low wall", may seem simple, it is actually very important in order to preserve surrounding spaces, such as a driveway, for example. The purpose of retaining walls is to retain the soil, which is why they need to be carefully installed.
In general, the method of installation for retaining walls is as follows: It starts with excavation work to create a granular base for the underground part of the wall. After excavation, the soil is leveled and compacted and then covered with a geotextile. The next step is to lay the first row of the wall, along with a drain to prevent any accumulation of water under the wall. Next comes the step of backfilling and installation of the following rows before finishing.
